Rayglass has just finished production of the 60th 3500. This is a huge milestone for the team, and means that the vessel is officially the best selling fibreglass cruiser by volume in NZ boating history.
We had a chat to Matthew Flannagan, Rayglass Sales Manager, about the milestone and the success of the 3500.
Creating and building the 3500 was a labour of love. The idea for the initial concept came from Rayglass Sales Director Scott Little and his wife, who’d done plenty of boating themselves and talked to thousands of Kiwi boaters.
What they’d been hearing (and experiencing) is that there was a gap in the market for a boat that was easy for two people to manage, but big enough for the family. Something like a beach house on the sea.
“The sales are a testament to the team’s initial vision and design,” said Matthew.
“The boat’s success is also down to its reputation for extremely high build quality, practicality and capability. We’ve had customers come back and buy a second 3500. This is a boat built by Kiwis for Kiwis and it's perfect for New Zealand and Australian conditions.”
The 3500 is regularly updated to include the latest marine technology and design. For the latest edition, Matthew says Rayglass went all out:
“There’s an all-new dash and engine configuration. This is the first Rayglass 3500 to feature the Mercury QSD, one of the most advanced engines on the market. It’s got joystick capabilities, a skyhook digital anchoring system and automatic engine trimming.”
“This is all controlled via a redesigned flush mount black dash fitting with illuminated switches, wireless phone charger and a Simrad 19” screen.”
Rayglass is planning to expand into Australia and they’re confident the 3500 will tick a lot of boxes for Australians, just like it does for Kiwis:
“The 3500 has great offshore capabilities, perfect for wide open seas - it’s just as suited to Harbour cruising, as offshore fishing, family cruising or overnighting. Lots of vessels are built for cruising, or fishing, but the 3500 is the perfect crossover.”
In 2024 Rayglass will be offering its entire range through a growing Australian dealer network, including the 3500 and all new 3000. Matt says the vessel is the perfect first launch:
“Most 3500 buyers are existing Rayglass owners who’ve had a 2500 or 2800 and want to take a step into the launch market at a competitive price point. It’s the perfect stepping stone for people wanting to upgrade from a trailer boat and explore further for longer.”
Australian customers are encouraged to contact Rayglass directly and we can direct you to a local dealer. New Zealanders can contact Rayglass to arrange a tour of the vessel:
“We currently have 3500s on display in our showroom. Give me a call and I’d be happy to show you around the boat, have a coffee and facilitate a sea trial so you can see what the 3500 is all about.”
“We’re sure you won’t be disappointed.”
